Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) is a traditional Hawaiian sport which promotes balance, strength and general fitness. It is the fastest growing water sport in the world that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Experience it for yourself and take in the all breathtaking scenery Clew Bay has to offer. We offer a variety of sessions to cater for Beginners, Improvers and Experienced Paddlers, as well as board rentals. 

Set in the West of Ireland in the Co Mayo and on the Wild Atlantic Way, Clew Bay offers breathtaking scenery as well as safe and sheltered locations with its 365 islands, numerous beaches and sheltered inlets, not to mention an abundance of wildlife. It provides the perfect setting for a relaxing paddle, a fun day out with friends or an extreme full body workout that is sure to burn calories if that’s what you are looking for!

SUP Mayo Newport
Situated just 10km from Westport on the Wild Atlantic Way and at the heart of the Great Western Greenway, Newport harbour is a perfect location for beginners. The sheltered flat-water of the harbour makes it easy for beginners to learn the basic skills of SUP in the picturesque surroundings. Take in a paddle under the Seven Arch Bridge or out to the rivers estuary and see all this beautiful area has to offer.

Outside Newport just off the Greenway, take a trip on the Burrishoole River in the shadow of the 15th century Burrishoole Abbey or paddle further west to Carrickahowley Castle home to the famous pirate queen Grainne Uaile.

15km further west along the Wild Atlantic way and also on the Greenway, the picturesque village of Mulranny is an ideal location for making the transition from Flat-water Sup to Exposed-water Sup and provides the ideal opportunity to take in some SUP surf with its small rolling waves.


1. Beginner Taster
Learn the basic SUP skills and manoeuvres at your own pace in a safe environment and discover why it’s the fastest growing sport in the world.
Duration: 1hr.
Cost: €20 per person, €15 for u-16.

2. Full Beginner Lesson
A 2 hour lesson with a 15-20 minute land lesson and 90-100 minutes on the water. The lesson covers water safety, equipment, proper paddling techniques and is packed with plenty of useful tips to help you gain confidence in the water.
Cost: €35 per person, €25 for u-16 (min 2 person) 1-on-1 tuition €50

3. Improver Lesson
Now that you are comfortable on the flat-water, challenge yourself to some exposed water conditions. Paddle out into Clew Bay while learning more advanced turns , improve your paddling technique and understanding the open water environment.
Duration: 2hr lesson.
Cost: €35 per person, €25 for u-16 (2 person min), 1-on-1 tuition €50.

4. Clew Bay Cruise
For intermediate and advanced Paddlers. Glide along the tranquil waters of Clew Bay while taking in the beautiful scenery. Get a unique view of the bay and enjoy occasional visits from seals and dolphins, all while getting a full body workout.
With 365 islands there are plenty of places to stop, rest and take in the scenery. Tours can vary due to weather, conditions and the group dynamic. 2-2.5 hour duration with a 15 minute briefing. Longer tours can be arranged with a stop and picnic on an island.
Cost: €35 per person (min 3 persons)

5. Group Sessions
We cater for all groups, parties, corporate , hens and stags and can tailor our sessions for maximum fun and enjoyment.
* All SUP sessions are dependent on weather and sea conditions and locations and times may vary.
*All the equipment is included in the price, board, adjustable paddle, wetsuit, buoyancy aid and leash. Just bring swimsuit for underneath the wetsuit and a towel. Sun protection for sunny conditions, sunscreen, sunglasses with strap, and a cap or hat.
