Newport to Westport
The trail between Newport and Westport predominantly follows the N59 road between the two towns. This section is the shortest of the Great Western Greenway and is a great connection between the two towns. There are no services on this section, but being the shortest, it doesn’t take long to complete.
Start/Trailhead: In Newport an official access point is located to the left just off the N59 traveling in the direction of Westport located approximately 2km from Newport town.

Highlights:
- Before you leave Newport discover one of Ireland’s greatest stain glass treasures, “The Last Judgment” by Harry Clarke in St Patricks Church, built on the hilltop in 1918 over looking the town and surrounding area.
- Make sure you take a walk over the Seven-arch railway viaduct built in 1894 over the Black Oak river.
- Explore the town of Westport, a bustling tourist destination and treat yourself to a much deserved refreshment in one of the many cafes, pubs or restaurants
